href="http://news.consumerreports.org/safety/2011/12/new-study-focuses-on-arsenic-in-rice.html">news sources, a new study at the Dartmouth Children’s Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Center shines the spotlight on dangerous levels of arsenic concentrated in rice by analyzing the arsenic in urine of about 200 pregnant woman. The study suggests a causal link between rice consumption and increased arsenic in urine.

There are reportedly no statutory limits for arsenic levels in foods sold in the U.S, as well as the European Union.

The situation represents a risk especially to pregnant mothers since exposure to arsenic during pregnancy can be of significant public health concern. Among the reasons why rice has such elevated levels of arsenic is because rice plants tend to be particularly efficient in gathering arsenic from the soil.

Exposure to high levels of arsenic can be especially harmful in early childhood.

As a <a

Two men have been recently charged in connection with aggravated abuse cases.

In the first case a 48-year-old man was arrested after allegedly depriving his father of food and medicine while leaving him in a bed filled with human waste. The man reportedly sold his fathers prescription pain medication while allegedly taking his retirement fund.

The second case involves a 51-year-old man who reportedly left his 74-year-old mother in a chair filled with human waste for weeks.

A promising newly created community response team will hopefully lower the amount of cases of elderly abuse such as these by collaboratively pooling the work of the Salt Lake County Aging Services with local police and prosecutors to identify suspected cases of elderly abuse and fraud.

As a <a

The alleged thief happened to be the one caregiver who reportedly watched over the senior after she found herself recovering from surgery.

According to the authorities, the thief allegedly used a card that was furnished under the elder woman’s name but that was never used by her before. Authorities say the thief spent over $8,000.

The representative from the Adult Protective Services has stated that financial fraud related to elders is very common and that a few precautionary steps should be taken so this problem won’t continue to happen.

Being in constant contact with the bank is a good way to have credit cards closely monitored. In the case of a senior citizen who has the same types of expenses every month, the bank should always detect an alarming and unexpected number of large purchases registered under their cards.

As a <a

The judge claimed Dr. Murray had committed a “horrific violation of trust” while handling his patient, Michael Jackson.

The judge went on to state that the mindless dosage of popofol administered by Dr. Murray could only mean he was practicing “medicine madness” and that his behavior showed his hunger for prestige, fame or anything else other than what his sworn obligation truly is as a physician.

According to the news reporting the case, there was a disturbing recording found in Dr. Murray’s phone. The recording itself was perceived as a dishonest act since it depicted his famous patient Michael Jackson during his most vulnerable moment.

After the alleged harsh words, Dr. Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after an extensive trial that exhibited detailed accounts of the pop singer’s final hours.

The <a

On July 6, 2006 he saw a doctor concerning chest pains and difficulty swallowing after eating a piece of steak. He was given multiple tests and a radiologist determined he was suffering from “a large hiatal hernia.” He was treated using oral medicines, but this did not decrease his pain. He was transported to the hospital for severe chest pain at midnight the same day. A surgeon discovered that the “hiatal hernia” diagnosis was incorrect and that the man had actually suffered form a perforated esophagus he received while swallowing his steak. The surgeon ordered him to be prepared for surgery by giving him an epidural catheter, but after this was inserted, he went into cardiac arrest and suffered brain damage. On July 17, he was pronounced dead.

His widow filed a wrongful death suit in March 2007. Her husbands state had been severely weakened because the perforated esophagus went for almost 24 hours unnoticed, yet it was visible in the CT scan.

“If he hadn’t been so sick when they put the epidural in, he wouldn’t have arrested.” Attorney John J. Sellinger

According to news reports, Fairfax Anesthesiology agreed to pay $600,000, while the Alexandria radiology firm agreed to go to trial. The jury issued a verdict awarding the family $3 million, but the state cap on medical malpractice awards lowered that amount to $1.25 million.

As a <a

I am the attorney and friend of the Jackson family. They have asked me to read this statement on their behalf.

There is no way to adequately describe the loss of our beloved father, son, brother, and friend. We still look at each other in disbelief – is it really possible that he is gone? As Michael’s parents, we could never have imagined that we would live to witness his passing; it is simply against the natural order of things. As his brothers and sisters, we will never be able to hold, laugh or perform with our brother again. And as his children, we will grow up without a father: our best friend, our playmate, our dad.

We are not here to seek revenge. There is nothing you can do today that will bring Michael back. But we will keep the love in our hearts that Michael embodied throughout his life – his passion was for unifying the world through the gift of his artistry.

We respectfully request that you impose a sentence that reminds physicians that they cannot sell their services to the highest bidder and cast aside their Hippocratic oath to do no harm. As we all know from this tragedy, doing so can have devastating results.

The Bible reminds us that men cannot really do justice, they can only seek justice. That is all that we, as a family, can ask for here.

Neutral Mediators Can Help You To Deal With Elder Safety Decisions

Personal Injury

Wrongful Death

elder abuse

elder safety

news

nursing homes

Safety

wrongful death
<guid

The holiday season is usually that time of the year when many of us have to deal with this problem but the worst part is our incapacity to do so carefully.

To assure the safety of the elders who need special attention, we must understand their needs and do the right research before committing to a facility that might have had cases of elder abuse in the past.

There are many elder agencies that can help you and your family to make the right decision regarding institutions and their history. Some of these services can even help you to clarify the situation to the elders themselves and all family members who will make the decision with you.

In many cases a neutral mediator will make the difference when it comes to identifying the best options for your family and the elders who need to be watched over.

Any <a

The new legislation would give rights to an unborn child. Mississippi voters rejected the same bill just two weeks ago. According to Los Angeles Times about the Micheal Jackson case. News outlets showed Michael Jackson’s doctor sentenced for involuntary manslaughter after a long trial. The goal of the singer’s family however is to bring light to an even higher power behind the star’s death: Los Angeles entertainment Goliath, the Anschutz Entertainment Group.

The pop star’s mother and children have moved on to a wrongful death suit after a conclusion of the criminal case was obtained. The defendant, the promoter of Michael Jackson’s ruined comeback tour otherwise known as AEG live and the plaintiff, Jackson’s family, are set for trial in September.

Most of the same queries presented at the criminal trial involving Dr. Conrad Murray will be brought forward once again: the singer’s performance anxiety, the drug propofol and the medical selection Jackson was exposed to.

Since the Judge has ruled areas of the criminal case immaterial to the role played by Murray, the coming proceedings hope to delve into the pop star’s years of drug problems and the state of his finances.

According to Brian Panish, Jackson family’s Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, “the conviction of Dr. Murray is just the beginning of bringing forth the truth on what happened to Michael Jackson, forces much larger than Dr. Murray were involved in this tragedy.”

The allegedly heartless business drive was the one thing, according to sources, that furnished the tragedy the pop star’s death represented to his family and fans. The greed behind the Entertainment Goliath’s drive forced the singer to go forth with a project he couldn’t keep up with. This stress placed on Jackson’s shoulders pushed him to rely on Dr. Murray’s assistance.

According to sources close to the Jacksons, AEG claimed they would file lawsuits against the singer if he eventually abandoned the tour. That would put a definitive end to Jackson’s career.

The wrongful death lawsuit being filed by the mother and children of Michael Jackson does not mention the name of Dr. Murray; they’re convinced AEG bears major responsibility. Jackson’s attorney has stated that civil jurors will have the opportunity to learn about the relationship between the singer and AEG in depth, his dependency on the Entertainment Giant and his severe financial problems.

Many topics kept away from the criminal trial will be brought to light so jurors can identify the real forces behind this horrible tragedy.

Fatal Occupational Injuries Released by The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Personal Injury

Safety

Wrongful Death

accidents

news

personal injury lawyer

wrongful death

news sources have reported that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has started to conduct a program so the number of fatal work injuries may be determined proficiently.

The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries has already achieved a preliminary result of a staggering 4,547 workers that sustained severe injuries related to their labor in the year of 2010 alone. According to official data and statistics drawn from it, there were up to 3.5 deaths per 100,000 workers last year.

The number of fire-related work fatalities has doubled according to official numbers. The private mining industry has shown an increase in fatal accidents while the private construction sector denoted significant declines.

High-risk industries like mining, construction and transportation try to implement strategies to secure the safety of their employees. According to reports, low-risk workplaces may also see fatalities occurring without warnings; travel-related fatalities linked to sales travel calls or accidental fires can be firm examples of low-risk workplace fatalities.

As a news sources, Lafayette Parish has seen many of its residents being involved in bicycle crashes in the past 5 years, 344 to be exact. Residents have seen 18 of these crashes resulting in severe injuries and 7 fatal incidents. According to city officials, people are fed up. Awareness must be brought to the locals so this staggering number of casualties will be a thing of the past.

Local news articles have reported that the city is getting many measures done to bring awareness to the bicycle safety issue. Education is the number one priority at this stage. The public must be aware of the laws and aware of how to deal with cyclists when driving down the road.

Education for bicyclists is also a priority. Bikers should never ride against the traffic, according to an official. Headlamps and flashing red tail lamps are important when riding during nighttime and, as far as motorist’s education goes, drivers should be aware of their vehicle power: the car must be three feet away from the cyclists when passing them.

After education, biker friendly paths will be increased, according to local reports. The city hopes to prevent possible accidents in the future.

As a <a

Reports show that there’s a possibility the product has been contaminated with clostridium botulinum.

The Quirch Foods C. from Miami, FL has announced that Leslie Leger and Sons Ltd. produced Salted Smokes Split Herring under the Plant Reg # 2406. It had to be recalled after a routine sample was collected at a retail store. The NY State Department of Agriculture and Markets have declared the product presented its viscera.

According to the authorities, botulinum spores are usually entirely conglobated in the animal’s viscera. Spores can cause a severe illness known as Botulism, which may cause among other things, dizziness, general weakness, abdominal distention, difficulty in breathing, constipation etc.

According to the producer, the packages were distributed in wooden boxes weighing 18lb to distributors in Florida, Georgia, Nassau BF and Puerto Rico.

As a different news sources claiming that the popular Beef Jerky manufactured by the Texas-based company Whittington’s Jerky Inc. is being recalled. Salmonella contamination is claimed to be the cause for this recall.

According to the news, over 120 pounds of beef jerky might be contaminated with the powerful bacteria. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Satefy and Inspection Service claim that both 2oz and 4oz packages of Beef Jerky sold in convenience stores in West Texas should not be consumed, if you have purchased any of these items return them immediately.

Salmonella is a dangerous bacterium that may cause one of the most life-threatening food borne illnesses to humans who have weak immune systems.

As a Seattle wrongful death attorney I hope that nobody will be affected by the contaminated beef jerky. Although this is an issue for residents of the state of Texas, Washingtonians should always be alert of different food recalls in the case the issue hits home.

Whenever a person has put under a major health risk because of a contaminated food sample, it is important that a <a

This disease is potentially fatal and although rare, the illness attacks the nervous system and causes respiratory failure.

As a <a

The center must pay $9,250 in fines for multiple violations.

News sources say that, despite the clinic’s good fame, a few of the violations are related to failing to appositely organize staff members for supervising patients. After a patient was recently found dead, the treatment center has to follow through with the improvements indicated by the Arizona Department of Health Services or face the risk of losing its state behavioral-health license.

According to the office chief for the state’s office, the provisional licensing Sierra Tucson now holds is the evidence of a grave matter. Reports show a severe lack of commitment to the type of care the facility is supposed to offer their patients.

In a year’s time, if Sierra Tucson does not comply with the requested ameliorations, including proper training of the present staff, the Facility’s Level Two license could be revoked indefinitely. The fact that a patient literally wandered off shows the staff deliberately has no specific training regarding behavioral health.

According to reports, right after the state’s investigation and the disappearance of one of the facility’s patients, there were exactly 42 violations of strict state regulations and laws governing mental and behavioral-health clinics.

The chief executive officer of Sierra Tucson has stated that the encounter with the Arizona Department of Health Services was productive. He claims that the treatment center has already started to execute all the improvements demanded by the state. This is not the first time Sierra Tucson is forced to pay fines to the state because of accidents involving patients. online report recently published in Pediatrics, hundreds of children’s lives and millions of dollars were saved by a few simple steps in central-line catheters handling.

A central-line catheter can become a likely sport for infection and bacteria contamination that heads straight for a patient’s bloodstream. If they are inserted incorrectly, dire consequences can arise.

The catheter is usually inserted to a mjor blood vessel in the groin, chest or neck. A routine check of the catheter is ideal. Catheters should be removed when no longer needed, and the dressing around them should be changed frequently. The line should be cleaned before and after each use, and those handling it should wash their hands. According to the study, hospitals which implemented these measure saw a cut in infections of over half in three years.

About 30,000 people die each year from central-line infections. Total, about 250,000 people are infected, with each infection costing about $45,000.

As a news sources.

The California Hospital Association president stated,

“Hospitals across California are making huge strides in improving the quality of care by advancing a culture of safety. Our campaign will highlight these efforts, as well as engage patients as our partners, with reminders about good safety practices that everyone should follow.”

The Association has utilized the internet and television to get the message to the public. The TV advertisement is a one-minute campaign focusing on doctors and nurses talking about the steps that can be taken by caregivers as well as the public to keep patients from becoming infected by other illnesses in hospitals. They cite washing hands before and after contact with those who are ill, and receiving vaccinations and flu shots.

The campaign on the internet features an ad that describes how hospitals are working to reduce infections, falls by patients, and blood poisoning.

According to California health officials, 12,000 people die yearly in California from healthcare related infections that occur in hospitals. In the United States as a whole, 99,000 deaths occur as a result of infections acquired in hospitals. This increases spending by an estimated $33 billion each year.

As a news reports.

Attorneys representing the family of the 39-year-old bicyclist said they have settled a $1.5 million settlement in the Feb. 4, 2009 accident. The fatal bicycle accident occurred when the avid biker was “riding in the southbound bike lane on 24th Avenue Northwest near Northwest 64th Street when a van owned by Ambient Control Company made a u-turn into his path. (the bicyclist) collided with the van and was rolled over by the tires,” according to news reports.

The attorney said that the tragic accident should serve as a reminder that drivers understand they share roadways with cyclists.

The man’s widow is supporting a near law called the Vulnerable User bill, which was signed earlier this month by Gov. Chris Gregoire. It creates new penalties for drivers who kill or seriously injure cyclists and pedestrians through negligent actions, according to news reports.

As a <a
